Ooh La La & The Holy Rollers

Sydney band Ooh La La, have recently resurfaced from the smokey confines of their live-in studio to gather forth all and sundry for an exclusive night of soul-stirring Rock on Sat 22nd September at The Vanguard in Newtown.

Gospel Choir, The Holy Rollers have been specially assembled to partake in this one-off extravaganza, fusing old school southern harmonies with the hard soul sound of
Ooh La La.

On this strength of their live shows, especially at this year’s PEATS RIDGE and THE GREAT ESCAPE festivals – Ooh La La’s debut EP ‘Chop The Mutha Down’ found itself happily perched at No.14 position of the ARIA SINGLES CHARTS. The lads along with their favourite boots, ignored all cigarette packet warnings and duly smoked their way through recording sessions that would give birth to their debut album (Wheezes and Coughs Included) titled ‘PEACE & HARMONY’. The record will be given an airing on their upcoming National Tour, prior to its official launch.

So whether you shave or wax, or protest against such varieties, gets yourself down to this very special one-night only pairing of Ooh La La & The Holy Rollers.

Event: Ooh La La & The Holy Rollers
Date: Sat 22nd September
Venue: The Vanguard, 42 King Street Newtown
Tickets available through Moshtix

OOH LA LA to play their Hard Soul Rock n Roll at the Oxford Tavern

OOH LA LA have slammed their way into the charts with their invigorating track “Chop the Mutha Down” from their EP. A week ago the band sat proudly at No. 14 of the ARIA Australian Artist Singles Charts and at No.5 in the V Energy independent Singles charts.

The Sydney 4 piece are gathering a growing army of fans & Soul-diers following their storming live shows. No doubt in part to Simon Meli’s super sweet rock n’ soul vocals simply ooze and wail onto the high-octane slabs of power. Behind him stands Tony Kvesic, who’s Riff and 4 finger fury continues on the legacy of Great guitarists such as Steve Cropper, Angus Young and Chuck Berry – Center Stage: Shane Steel O’Neill. His intense & soulful drumming looks like overgrown child’s play and Serg Coniglione holds the vertebrae firmly rooted with his smooth craftsmanship on bass.
They’ve already played The Peat’s Ridge Festival and The Great Escape but are equally at home in more intimate venues. They’ll be playing at the The Oxford Tavern on Thursday 7th June.

Comparisons can be made to the great soul/ rock bands of the 60’s and 70’s, such as The Faces or Booker T Jones with the grunt of ACDC. Recently try thinking Wolfmother meets Jet with a whole lotta extra soul and love. Their music is as sharp as their image and their four track EP is available for download at all digital retailers.

OOH LA LA give it to you, like a hit in the heart, injecting one whole hunk of Rhythm & Blues, Sweet Soul Music.

“Frontman Simon Meli has more soul than the devil could ever collect. Every note and lyric is delivered with more passion than the most tragic of Shakespeare novels. The words, awe-inspiring and jaw dropping spring to mind. To borrow a comment from a joyous crowd member, this band is the blackest white band in Sydney.” The Brag
